Slow afternoon

All of a sudden, we do have a slow afternoon ahead and I love it so much. Nowhere to go, nothing to do (apart from the obligatory laundry).

These moments are rare with both parents working full-time and two kids with various hobbies, so I will soak in this day of time to spend however we want and the warm winter sunshine.

It makes me so unbelievably happy.

Overwhelmed

Slowly, I realize what a career change really means. I am teaching and studying full time and within the next weeks are exams and other stuff ahead. At the same time, work at school was crazy this last week.

I have to admit, that I feel a bit overwhelmed. I feel like I am always behind with my schedule and tired all the time. I get up super early and don't get basic stuff done like vacuuming or cooking a proper dinner. Laundry is piling up, too.

I am afraid, I have to stop doing stuff 100% perfect. I have to ask for help and get my family more involved. I have to stop volunteering for stuff at work, and instead concentrate on exams. I really have to stomp on the break and make sure to breathe.

So, this coming week I wanna focus on myself. Get the important stuff done and leave the other things behind. I also have to treat my body much, much better. I can feel how the weight I packed has an influence on my body and soul, and it's not a good one.

So, here we go. Heading into the week with good thoughts and a positive mind.

Summer Break Week 1

And here we are. Summer break is in full swing. BigL is gone for summer camp every day between 9am and 4pm. LittleL is still going to kindergarten this and next week. Today is actually the first day I am home alone and guess what...

... I am bored.

I did two loads of laundry, I cleaned the bathroom and mopped the floors, I shopped school supplies and caught up with Grey's Anatomy Season 11. (Derek is DEAD??) I did some doodling in my bullet journal and out of sheer frustration did the online banking (which I hate).

And now, here I am. What to do?

Blog? Okay, done in ten minutes.
Clean out the kitchen cabinets? No!
Sew myself a summer dress? Might work, but there is not enough time today left.
Clean mirrors and windows? No way.
Clean car inside and out? Again, no.
Meet a friend for coffee? Which friend? They are all working!
Online shopping? Uhm, let me check the bank account ... no.
Chat with the neighbour? I already did that. She is gone now for housework.

Pick up LittleL and have some icecream? Probably!

Today

Today was fabulous. I came home late last night from a party and woke up around nine a.m. which is pretty early for me on a weekend. No idea why, but I felt so full of energy and wanted to egt stuff done, so after snuggling with DH and Little L, I got up and jumped into the shower. We had breakfast and then DH and me cleaned the place and I tackled piles of laundry.

We met with our neighbour and her daughter (Little L's best friend) and went for a walk, which included ice cream some quality time on the playground. The sun was shining, but we didn't stay too long, because the wind was pretty chilly. I am so looking forward to this week, because temperatures are supposed to be around 13°C with lots of sunshine.

When we came home the kids went to see friends in the neigbourhood and DH and me cleaned out our living room drawer. Fun times. After that, we parked our butts on the couch.

It was a great weekend. Fun and relaxing. The right amount of busy and enough time to recharge the batteries. I am heading into this new week with excitement. My class is having their first exams on Monday and Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed.

My Halloween

First of all: Being at home with a sick kid is soooo boring. We are dealing with a stomach bug in our home and nobody is really interested in the Halloween decorations and candy (obviously). This was just the same on Valentine's Day, when I had helium balloons and made heart shaped muffins and Big L was throwing up the whole day. Good times.

Also, I am mad as hell as I was responsible for opening the store today and with sick kids this is somewhat difficult. But the company was not able to organize someone to cover my shift. Big bummer. I then found a way but it was not the best solution for me or the kids. The next time that damn store is staying closed. So what. Not my problem, right?

And then I realized, that there probably won't be a next time. I am going back to teaching in one month from today. Wohoo! I am so looking forward to it!

Now, at dinner time Little L is much better and chewing on some corn chips and sipping caffeine free coke. I'd say the worst is over. Let's hope for the first night with no throwing up and a good night's sleep. Nothing stresses me more out than kids with a stomach bug.

Back to Business

Monday morning. Ugh! Nobody needs Mondays, right? Today is the first day of school after fall break and we are expecting the math test back, so let's see how this went. Big L says, it was pretty good, but that does not mean it actually was. *g*

How was your weekend? Ours was really good, the right mixture of getting stuff done and laid back. I started reading the first Christmas romance, which turned out to be more chick-lit. But that goes pretty well with my anglophile self. I hope the review will be up by November, 1st.

We also cleaned out the bedroom, which was our room for hoarding all kinds of stuff. now it is neat and clean and I love it. We visited church for the final service of kids week, which was just wonderful. It really touches my heart to see hundred children worship and praise the lord. And as every year, I think we have to go to church more often. Let's see how that works out.

We are heading into this very busy week today, which kind of stresses me out before it already begun. I have to work a lot and mostly long shifts, which means Big L will be home alone when he comes from school. It usually is not a problem, but I would like to be there to welcome him home. To make lunch and talk about what happened in school and how his day went. Plus, we have different appointments this week, at the pediatrician with Little L for his annual check up. At the dentist, all three of us for check ups and I lost a filling. Good times.
Then there is Little L's swimming class today and I have to work a long shift on Saturday. It's a six-days-week and full of things to do. I cannot wait for Sunday!

This will be much better comes December, 1st. Maybe you heard the news before, maybe not, but I will go back into teaching then. I will work three days a week and be always home when the kids return from school or daycare. I will be off on Mondays and Fridays, which means a four-days-weekend and three days of work. And I am getting lots of money for that, too. I am so looking forward to it!
